A fresh perspective…

I’m Sarah Kauphusman, player of pianos and lover of whimsy.

I’m a master’s student at Temple University, studying piano performance. I’m originally from a small town in Wisconsin, where I began studying piano at age 5 and completed my Bachelor of Music at University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. After my graduation from Temple, I plan to earn my D.M.A.

In playing, my primary aim is to evoke joy and connection, as well as a sense of child-like wonder. My other goals include working to mitigate the effects of elitism in the classical music world, encourage the programming of music written by under-represented composers, and promote diversity in music academia. That’s why I started PianoFestive by developing and performing a series of children’s concerts in Philadelphia’s elementary schools, which combine both standard and less popular repertoire with whimsical and engaging stories. Ultimately, I hope to use creative programming and unconventional concert ideas to help reinvigorate the general public’s love for classical music. Let’s turn classical music upside down, together.
